Quick Reminders

While everyone is enjoying their day off, remember that 8th graders have a Navi kuntrus entry due this Monday. Also, try to use some of today to relax and also use a little time to review and reflect on what is happening at school. It’s a great opportunity so take advantage!

Long Lost Update

After a prolonged absence, here’s what we’re up to: 8th Grade: We have jumped into our learning of the first Beit Hamikdash. Our Navi kuntrus entry is due a week from Monday. We will be learning about the Beit Hamikdash, its construction and signifigance for about a month. It is always one of my favorite [...]

Last Week’s Update

We have settled into our groove and each class has had some amazing discussions and moments! 6th Grade: We’ve made a lot of headway in Navi, moving further into the first perek and seeing the birth of Shemuel. This week we should be finishing the first perek which will mean our first kuntrus entry will [...]

8th Grade Kuntrus

The 8th grade boys have finished the first perek of Melachim Aleph, and as such have their first kuntrus assignment due next Tuesday (no school on Monday!). If any students have specific questions about the kuntrus, they should talk to me sooner than later. Don’t put working on it off until Monday night!

First Full Week

This was my first full week in school, and while I’m pretty exhausted, I also feel we made some significant accomplishments. Most of all, I was very excited that we started learning in earnest, and our learning was for the most part incredible! Here’s a quick run down of some of our accomplishments: 6th Grade: [...]

Our Worlds Converge

Over the year, I am going to try to point out when we discuss topics in class that fall outside our curriculum. In Eighth Grade Navi yesterday we talked extensively about the circulatory system and heat. We also covered a lot of Israeli politics and history today in one eighth grade class, focussing mostly on [...]

Back In Action

We pushed forward in 8th Grade Navi today, and talked about some pretty important ideas. Foremost among them was the idea of “teshuva gemura,” or total repentance. The idea, according the the Rambam, is that complete repentance is done when a person is placed in the same position of their sin and resists sinning. We [...]

Second Day

Today in Navi we worked on our Kuntrus or portfolios. For the handout from today click here. We reviewed two parts of the kuntrus, specifically Navi episodes and summarizing. Summarizing is a critical skill in life and one that we will be focussing on intensly this year. To practice summarizing, we are reading and summarizing [...]

Welcome Back!

Wow! After a lot of preparing, we got what will be an amazing school year off the ground today. The energy in the school was incredible, and most noticeable was the lack of first day ‘adjustments’ on the part of the students. Everyone picked up right where they left off last year, which is a [...]
